About

Who are you?

I’m the editor-in-chief (EIC) of Tinned Soup Review, a website which reviews tinned (or canned) soups.

Why are you doing this?

I like soup as much as the next person. Some tinned soups are really bad and some are really good. I would like for you to not waste your time with a bad soup.

What constitutes a tinned soup?

First we must ask, what constitutes a soup?

What constitutes a soup?

I’m glad you asked. Soup, to me, is a kind of wet meal with a degree of solidity to it on some level. It also must be called soup. Baked beans are not soup.

What constitutes a tinned soup?

A tinned soup is soup that comes in a tin (or can if you prefer). It does not come in a plastic tub, carton or some kind of cardboard bowl thing.

Who made you the king of soup?

Look, no-one made me the king of soup. I eat tinned soup most days and have grown fond of some of them. I am not a chef, nor a culinary critic and therefore all opinions are utterly uninformed.

Are you in the pocket of ‘big soup’?

I am not sponsored by any of the soup giants, therefore any biases are my own and pre-date the founding of Tinned Soup Review

How are we cooking these bad boys?

In the microwave almost always – I will stipulate when not. Generally in a bowl with clingfilm over the top if at home or in a fancy soup heating mug tupperware at work. It’s made by the good folks at Sistema (https://www.sistemaplastics.com/656ml-medium-soup-mug). Again, I am not sponsored by anyone.
I generally prepare as per the recommendations of the soup manufacturer.

These reviews don’t look the same, why is that?

Not all soups are created equal, therefore no two reviews are the same. I want you to know what I was thinking after I ate the soup. There is no established process for this in the literature.

Why a 5 star system and not out of 10?

Take a good hard look in the mirror and think about whether asking this question is worth your time.
